The PocketLab HotRod is a fun and creative take on the classic “physics cart”, except it’s not boring and it doesn’t look like a brick on wheels.  Check out the video and read more here to learn more. 


The PocketLab HotRod zooms through classic investigations on force and motion, measuring position, velocity, acceleration, rotation, force, magnetism, and more. The brains of the PocketLab HotRod is a PocketLab Voyager, which means its a genius car. It also means you can detach the PocketLab Voyager, and conduct literally hundreds of other science experiments.

Measure position, velocity, and acceleration using PocketLab Voyager’s built-in rangefinder or by attaching PocketLab Voyager to the PocketLab HotRod’s wheel.

Buying Options

Option 1: PocketLab HotRod + PocketLab Voyager - $168 - Click here to buy. 

Select this option and we'll 3D print your HotRod and include it with a PocketLab Voyager. A PocketLab Voyager costs $148 on its own, so this is a great option if you don't yet have a Voyager or you'd like another one. The PocketLab Voyager attaches to the HotRod in a number of ways to collect all kinds of data on the motion of the car. You can then detach your PocketLab Voyager and use it to conduct countless investigations in physics, Earth science, environmental science, chemistry, engineering, coding and more. Option 2: PocketLab HotRod - Do It Yourself Kit - $12 - Click here to buy 

In this option, you 3D Print your own PocketLab HotRod and we'll send you the non 3D printed parts. This option is great if you have access to a 3D printer and you already have a PocketLab Voyager. We will send you the ball bearings, the axles, and other hardware that can't be 3D printed. You'll have access to the PocketLab HotRod's 3D printer files, so you can make your own HotRod easily. 

Option 3: PocketLab HotRod - Do It Yourself without the Kit - $0 - Click here for everything you need. 

In this option, you 3D print your own PocketLab HotRod and buy the non 3D printed parts yourself. This option is great if you have access to a 3D printer, you already have a PocketLab Voyager, and you don't mind buying hardware from a few different places. You'll have access to the PocketLab HotRod's 3D printer files in our library or our Thingiverse page.

 

The PocketLab Difference

PocketLab Voyager: The PocketLab Hot Rod includes a detachable, fully functional PocketLab Voyager, an award winning wireless sensor that is capable of hundreds of science experiments. Measure the speed of your PocketLab HotRod, then detach the Voyager, strap it to a rocket and measure its altitude during launch. The possibilities are endless.

Fully customizable: The PocketLab HotRod is designed to be customized. With a 3D printer you can design and print your own accessories or use one of our free designs from our library.

 Hundreds of experiments: The detachable PocketLab Voyager can measure, acceleration, rotation, position, velocity, magnetism, barometric pressure, altitude, temperature, humidity, dew point, and heat index. Voyager connects via Bluetooth to the PocketLab app to stream and record data in real-time, and has onboard memory for recording data without a Bluetooth connection.  No expensive track required! Super low friction bearings and low rolling resistance wheels make for excellent low friction “physics cart” experiments.

 A classroom set of PocketLab HotRods for free! You can 3D print as many PocketLab HotRods as you want for free. Just head to our library of 3D printer files or our Thingiverse page. 

 Position, Velocity, and Acceleration measured in multiple ways! Measure position, velocity, and acceleration using PocketLab Voyager’s built-in rangefinder or by attaching PocketLab Voyager to the PocketLab HotRod’s wheel. The built in accelerometer is also a great way to independently measure acceleration, especially during “impact” experiments. More options means more use cases.

 Rubber band cars, motors, and more: The design of the PocketLab HotRod allows for easy access to the back axle of the car, perfect for powering your HotRod with a rubber band or a DC motor.

 Scratch coding: PocketLab Voyager can connect with Scratch, the visual programing language, which means you can design your own programs that use data from your PocketLab Voyager and PocketLab HotRod.

Assembly Instructions: Assembling your PocketLab HotRod is easily and allows for simple customization. Assembly instructions can be found here.
