We were proud to be invited to do a summer program for about 70 high school girls aspiring to be future engineers at Santa Clara University. The week long program was called GetSET (Get Science, Engineering, and Technology), was sponsored by the Society for Women Engineers and had activities ranging from programming to visiting Facebook, and a hands-on lab with PocketLab.

The girls rotated through several activities for the evening and visited the PocketLab session in groups of about 20.  We broke into smaller teams and everyone got a chance to run through the crash cushion lab activity, using only construction paper, tape, and staples to build a crash cushion. There was some impressive problem solving going on, and it was a surprise to us how many different designs the teams came up with! One of the best designs was something completely unexpected - we would have never guessed by looking at it, but it got some of the best impact reduction data of the night.

It was great to see all the girls engaged, thinking hard and having fun, and getting to learn about some cool technology in the process. We can't wait to do this again in the future. Many thanks for the invitation from the Society for Women Engineers, and a special shout out to Lorie Laird who coordinated this for us and made it a great evening and super successful event.
